David E Meranda, 55, of Murfreesboro TN died Saturday, October 23 2004 from injuries sustained in a car wreck near Scottsburg IN. Born April 21 1949 to Roy & Geneva Murphy Meranda of Scottsburg, he was married to Bonny Cull Meranda. David was recently retired as a letter carrier with the U.S.Postal Service after 32 years in Murfreesboro TN and was a licensed realtor. He was also a member of Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge #18. Survivors with his parents and wife are sons: Byron Meranda & Matt (wife Jennifer) Meranda & grandchild Cheyenne Meranda; and daughter: Monica Meranda all of Murfreesboro TN; brother Richard L (wife Connie) of Franklin TN and parents-in-law: E.T. & Yvonne Cull of Readyville TN.

Earlene Redifer,
87, died Tuesday October 19 2004 at Scott Memorial Hospital in Scottsburg IN. She was born May 2 1917 in Austin IN to Larry & Bertha Meranda Richey, and was married to Delbert Redifer. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Alan and a grandchild. Earlene was a former employee of Old Army Ammunition Plant in Charlestown, a former matron of Scott Co Jail, radio operator for Scottsburg Police Dept. and a member of Zoah Christian Church. She is survived by sons: Larry Redifer & William 'Bill' Redifer of Scottsburg and Marvin Redifer of Russellville IN; daughter: Ruth Ann Sichting of Trafalger IN; brother: Lynn Richey & sister: Evelyn Pittman both of Boswell IN; 15 grandchildren & many great grandchildren.


Visitation: 4-8pm Thursday October 21 2004 and 10am-2pm Friday at Stewart Funeral Home. Services: 1pm Friday October 22 2004 at Stewart Funeral Home with Chuck Hendrix officiating and burial in Zoah Cemetery.



Sara Awilda Stephan, of Scottsburg IN died on Sunday October 10 2004. She was born March 29 1918 to Floyd & Ruby West of Austin IN. A graduate of Austin High School, Austin IN & Louisville KY St. Joseph Infirmary, she was a retired nurse and was employed as a nurse at Napper Hospital in Scottsburg IN during WWII and later at Lincoln University in Jefferson City MO. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, The Women's Medical Auxillary and Phi Beta Psi Sorority. She and her husband, Dr. August "Stef" Stephan, resided in Jefferson City MO for over 20 years.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers, Harold, Lloyd, Kenneth, and Ronald, her sister-in-laws, Lucille West and Joan West, her nephew, Kenneth West and niece, Kimberly West. Survivors include her children, Karan Candy of Richardson TX; Ric Stephan of Bloomington IN & Shari James of Lexington IN; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, 5 nieces & 2 nephews.

Visitation: 1pm-3pm, Sunday, October 17 2004 at Stewart Funeral Home. Funeral Service 3pm Sunday October 17 with burial in National Cemetery in Jefferson City MO with her late husband, Dr. August P Stephan, A Captain and combat physician in World War II. Berdetta Allen,  70, resident of Scottsburg IN died October 12 2004 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born June 4 1934 in Hazard KY to Elijah & Georgia Noble Thomas who preceded her in death. She was married to Tom Allen who survives. Berdetta had been a former office worked for Montgomery Ward in Chicago and retired from WalMart. She was a member of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Crothersville IN. Other survivors besides her husband; son, Tommy Allen Jr. of Scottsburg; daughters, Debra L Nease of Cortland IN & Pam Derrig of Scottsburg; a sister, Betty Finger of CA; several half brothers & sisters; & 7 grandchildren & 4 great grandchildren.

Grace Alicia Zimmerman, 41, of Scottsburg IN, died in Louisville KY, October 8 2004. She was born May 12 1963 in Jeffersonville IN to Howard M & Oma Saylor Zimmerman. Grace was a graduate of New Washington High School Class of l981. She was preceded in death by her father. Survivors: sons; Joshua Grimes & Jeremiah Dismang of Scottsburg IN; daughter; Jessica Grimes of Lanesville IN; mother; Oma Zimmerman of Scottsburg; brothers; Sonny J Saylor of Austin IN & Timothy Saylor of Sellersburg IN; sister; Mary Hornberger of Enid OK and 1 grandchild.

Mary Justine McClain, 63, died at her residence near Scottsburg IN October 2 2004. She was born March 20 1941 in Louisville KY to Dr. Marvin & Mrs. Harriet Ford McClain. She was a graduate of Indiana University, member of Unity Church of Louisville KY and retired from J.C. Penney in the accounting & computer departments. She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Emily Young. She is survived by her brother, Jim McClain (wife Pat) of Scottsburg; aunt, Major Mary J Ford of San Antonio TX and nieces, Shannon (husband Kevin) Guidry of Baytown TX and Ashley McClain of Decatur IL.
