Willard Hays, 102, of Franklin IN, formerly of Scottsburg IN, died December 10 2006 in Franklin IN. He was born June 6 1912 in Scott County IN to Noble & Susie Hays. He was married to Viola Beswick Hays. Mr. Hays was a retired line type operator with the newspaper in Franklin IN, he was a self taught carpenter, a craftsman in repairing and making wood parts for wooden mechanisms in antique clocks and enjoyed playing croquet. Survivors: daughters, Winifred Hays Lutes of Whitewater KS, granddaughter, Bette Konecny, great grandson, James Ellis & 3 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a son Joseph Hays, a grandchild, 3 brothers Mark Hays, Alfred Hays & H. Brian Hays, & 2 sisters, Phyllis Zollars & Jean Spears.  A Graveside Service will be held 2pm, Thursday, March 22 2007 at Scottsburg Cemetery with Rev Christian Boyd officiating.

Bruce A Ritter,  88, of Scottsburg, died Tuesday, February 27 2007 at Scott Memorial Hospital. He was born December 10 1918 in Scottsburg to J.A. & Anna M Garriott Ritter who preceded him in death along with a brother, George Lee Ritter. Bruce's father established a shoe repair shop in l914, later branching out to sell shoes and Bruce started selling shoes at age 12 in his father's store. Bruce took over the Ritter's Shoe Store in1947 and along with his wife, Mary, ran the business until he sold it in l987. As part of the local business community for 40 years, the Ritters believed in supporting local causes & were big supporters of Scottsburg sports teams and were generous to many campaigns to raise funds for Scouts & other groups. Bruce was a member of First Christian Church in Scottsburg, Scott County Republican Party, VFW, American Legion, and the 82nd Airborne Division Association having served in the U.S. Army as a 1st Lt during WWII as a glider pilot. Survivors: wife, Mary E Owen Ritter; daughters, Marianna Zaphiriou & husband John of Indianapolis IN, Jana Buxton & husband William of North Miami FL; sister, Lettie Ann Hedgepeth of Hamilton OH; and grandchildren, Jason Zaphiriou, Damon & wife Roberta Zaphiriou, Joanna Zaphiriou & William Buxton. Visitation: 4-8pm Friday March 2 2007 & after 11am Saturday at Stewart Funeral Home. Funeral Services: 1pm Saturday at the funeral home with Larry J DeWitt officiating and burial in Scottsburg Cemetery.
